Valderrama's

You can expect sport at Valderrama’s but this is far from your typical sports bar. This is the brainchild of James Cochran, the man behind nearby restaurant 12:51, and is named after Colombian football legend Carlos Valderrama. Expect fried chicken, beer on tap, and a venue full of retro colour and flair, beginning with the pink-hued facade that immediately stands out on Upper Street.

Whether or not you’re a football fan, there’s lots to discover at this bar. The interior combines exposed brick, vintage sports-themed prints, and vibrant murals bursting with colour. If you pop to the loo you’ll discover cubicles decorated with sports magazine covers and cut-outs, much like the collages of your celebrity crushes you made when you were younger. It’s the right combination of nostalgia and contemporary style.

The bar at Valderrama’s has plenty of choice, including Beavertown beers on tap. Creative cocktails are also available, or you can get a frozen margarita. There’s a tempting food menu to go with those drinks too, with Cochran’s fried chicken concept being the focus. Choose between chicken pieces or burgers, including The Original burger oozing with whipped blue cheese mousse, bacon scratchings, and scotch bonnet jam. If you’re after something smaller, the fries, hash browns, brownies, and doughnuts are all great paired with a cocktail or pint. If you’re looking for a colourful and laid-back bar in Islington with drinks, vibes, and gourmet food, Valderrama’s is well worth a stop.
