Not just a bookshop but also a hub for the LGBTQ+ community, Gay’s the Word was founded in 1979, when gay literature was not very easy to come by. Today, Gay’s the Word is the country’s oldest LGBTQ+ bookstore, stocking a variety of books, from fiction and graphic novels to educational tomes, all categorised by sexuality and gender. They also host different discussion groups and meetings, as well as provide relevant resources and information.
