New Beacon Books was established in 1966 as the first Black publisher and specialist bookshop in the UK. The bookstore stocks titles from Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, African America, Europe, South America and Black Britain. Several years ago, its importance to the country’s communities was emphasised when it was saved from closing down by a crowdfunding campaign, helping it adapt to contemporary times.
