Peggy Jean at Riverside Green

A venture from old hands when it comes to barge restoration and reinvention – the Daisy Green Collection is behind Grand Union Canal's Darcie & May boats, as well as numerous other eateries around the city – Peggy Jean is a water-top dining destination in Richmond.

The restored former Jesus College Oxford barge anchored on the Thames offers marvellous views of the river, Richmond Bridge and Richmond Riverside, guaranteeing it a top spot in the “romantic sunsets” category. The historic barge and accompanying pontoon are decked out in soft blues and reds, combining Oxford College Boat Race charm with laidback beach club vibes. Seating is weather-dependent, however, so as usual, fingers crossed for as much dry, sunny weather as possible.

The boat houses an intimate bar with beer on tap and an airy dining area where you can spend a cosy evening, hanging out with your mates. The kitchen has two clay ovens for freshly-baked pizzas with a variety of intriguing, Aussie-inspired toppings such as Vegemite. Calamari, day-boat fish, giant tomahawk steaks and other barbecued delicacies are available as well. On weekends, the bottomless brunch is sure to draw in crowds looking to while away the day.

The barge is also very dog-friendly, with dog beds and treats available, so expect to see plenty of puppers resting up after a romp around Richmond Park.
