Social Eating House by Jason Atherton is a laid-back destination for contemporary European dining. The space isn’t showy; instead it oozes understated style with weathered walls, wooden furniture, and low lighting. You can choose from a variety of menus in this humble setting, making it a popular venue for any type of meal.

The entire restaurant is sophisticated, housing the main dining area as well as an award-winning upstairs bar with a speakeasy feel and a creative cocktail list. You can make reservations just for the bar. Both spaces are available for private hire and the restaurant caters to a broad range of events, including weddings. Small groups can enjoy semi-private seating at the intimate chef’s counter, watching the kitchen at work.

There are a choice of menus at Social Eating House. The main à la carte menu comprises sophisticated small plates to share plus large plates like Cornish brill with mussels or sirloin steak from Scotland. A prix fixe menu is available for lunch and pre-theatre, offering two or three courses such as slow-cooked Cumbrian chicken and peach melba. You can add cocktails and carafes of wine to the prix fixe menu if you wish.

Social Eating House also has dedicated menus for the chef’s counter experience, including vegetarian and vegan versions. There’s a wide selection of wine, including many vintages by the glass, and there are English sparkling wines too.
